Grass Roots Farmers’ Cooperative

Regenerative Farming: Pasture-Raised Beef, Pork & Poultry

Overview

PROFOUNDLY BETTER TASTING AND NUTRITIOUS

Pasture raised. Fair wage. Farmed in the U.S.A.

Grass Roots is a co-op of farmers in rural America practicing regenerative farming that’s better for the animals, the soil, the environment, and everyone’s health.

We value our neighbors across the country and the globe the same way we value our neighbors just down the road. We honor honest work with a fair wage, and believe that raising livestock in sustainable ways that heal the land and foster healthy, living soil is the right thing to do.

This goes beyond grass-fed. Our animals pasture and forest-raised, with no hormones or antibiotics. And the flavor? Well, that speaks for itself.

NATURAL, UNCOMPLICATED FOOD AND FARMING CHOICES—IT’S REVOLUTIONARY

The ideas are both big and simple—choosing sunlight, fresh air and water, and farmland that’s green and growing, bursting with life.

Regenerative farming is the practice of growing plants and animals the way nature does. That includes fostering a diversity of plants and trees, using no-till methods for planting, and incorporating grazing animals that naturally produce compost. These land-healing, soil-restoring methods also happen to be more rewarding for the farmers and farm communities, and result in meats that are profoundly better tasting and nutritious.

For the Grass Roots co-op of American farmers, regenerative farming also means paying attention to how this continent evolved—with millions of acres of grasslands under the hooves of millions of roaming bison. When grasslands are left intact to grow tall and flourish, and are grazed from time to time, root systems of the healthy grasses naturally draw carbon out of the atmosphere and down into the soil, where it’s beneficial to the ecosystem. This is the ground-level story of regenerative agriculture in America—and how the natural cycles are being restored.

What you eat, and where and how your food is sourced is important. Grass Roots is a farmer-owned, fair wage meat company delivering nationwide. Our pricing reflects truer costs of farming and the Grass Roots’ commitment to providing a living wage for the people who produce our food.

Thank you in advance for your support of regenerative farming—a food revolution in the making.

Why We Like It

THE FUTURE OF FARMING IS HERE

Agriculture that’s intentional, sustainable, forward-thinking. Our community of farmers is growing.

People are the centerpiece of the farming equation. We began Grass Roots because we’re committed to paying a living wage to farmers—the literally down-to-the-earth people who work with passion and grit to produce essential, nutritious food for the rest of us. Grass Roots has seen the difference it makes to guarantee a sales price to members of the cooperative, and to purchase whole animals. Farmers tell us that without worry of economic fluctuations they are free to farm to the best of their abilities—and they’re able to earn enough income to be able to retain their land, make improvements, and plan, plant and manage for the future.

Economically empowered, the farmers and ranchers of Grass Roots join a growing community of farms in the U.S. (and around the world) who have bucked mid-20th century thinking and stepped away from industrial, chemical and pesticide-based agriculture that degrades the land. Instead of degenerative farming, regenerative practices act to heal the landscape—farmers are able to naturally and ethically produce higher quality, much tastier meat.

PROCESSING PRACTICES

We take animal welfare very seriously during every step of the animal’s life. We own and operate our small-scale processing facilities here in the United States where our animals are humanely harvested. They are centrally located to our farms to minimize the time our animals have to travel and are USDA inspected. This ensures that our standards for animal welfare are upheld from birth to harvest. Our small processing team is an integral part of our value chain, that’s why we provide extensive in-house training for guaranteed integrity. This is more than just a job, we help them build a career where they can utilize their craft and skills.
